Jetstar is an Australian airline that is the discount carrier offshoot of Qantas. Jetstar also have a growing interest in Asia through their Jetstar Asia airline. Jetstar have bold expansion plans with the hope of travelling to Europe from Australia/Asia in the coming years. The initial plans for European expansion have been somewhat curtailed by the rapidly rising oil price which has recently caused them and Qantas to cut back on services but they are still blessed with being low cost and servicing some rapidly expanding parts of Asia such as Cambodia and Vietnam.
I recently travelled from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur and managed to obtain a return airfare of $458. This was booked six months ahead and while with higher fuel costs impacting the bottom line of airlines these deals will be harder to find they will not disappear. Once an airfare of $1000 to a place like Malaysia would have been a good deal but with the plethora of discount airlines competition for passengers is strong.
Jetstar have friendly crews, professional pilots and new aircraft. Plus with the added advantage of having Qantas as a big brother you have a solid and reliable airline. While Jetstar have had their issues since inception some four years ago they have found a solid place in the Australian aviation industry along with Qantas and Virgin Blue.
